21st Century here we come PDF Print E-mail

WooohoooooWell KROMA is finally about to join the 21st century, yes we are upgrading to the new AMB/MYLaps transponder system.

With the new system we will be able to support the AMBrc personal transponders as well as the new MYLAPS RC4 Hybrid transponders which are about to be released.

The new Hybrid transponders provide a range of new features  and some of the marketing blurb seems to imply upgradability. Here are the new functions/features of the new transponders:

new transponders

  • Temperature: the ambient temperature of the transponder
  • Voltage: the supply voltage of the transponder
  • Half the size and half the weight of the RC2 Transponder
  • Comes with a separate holder, so you can easily switch transponder between cars and boats
  • Better quality cable (PTFE) that is racing fuel resistant
  • Low voltage operability: 2.8-16 Volt compatible
  • 1-4 cell LiPo compatible
  • It will be your parent transponder and it comes with Car ID 0 (zero), the default Car ID. You can add child transponders, with Car ID 1, 2, 3, etc. (available soon)
  • Any MYLAPS RC4 transponder can always be replaced by a new one that inherits the same Transponder ID and Car ID

  • Apparently these new transponders also offer a better signal strength, and are compatible with the AMBrc/RC2/RC3 transponder systems that are currently running at other clubs.

Now the very important bit for club members, as part of our upgrade we will be getting a bunch of the new RC4 Hybrid transponders on a first in first served. In order to claim your personal transponder you need to have paid for it by the end of the club meeting on the 21st of March but don't wait until the last minute, the order will be placed after that. The expected delivery of the transponders is April, further news will be available here as things happen.

The cost of the transponders will be as follows:

    Club Members$100
    Non Club Members$130

Very important to note that this price is only an introductory price as part of the upgrade to the new system and as part of a bulk buy by the club, once this batch goes the price will go up and you will have to source your own transponders, unless we have enough interest to do another bulk order.

The KROMA Cup is finaly ove and who would expected the weather on Sunday given the previous couple of of days, oh well there are just some things we cannot control.

As expected the last 2 rounds of qualifying didn't help to many people improve on the previous days qualifying results, the main saving grace was that by the time the finals began most of the dust had stopped and the track was getting cleaner and cleaner.

Some good close racing with most classes going down to the third final for a result, Nitro Pro Tourer had a single 15 minute final. Summary of results follows:
