Thanks to everybody who turned up at the track today to help out with some much needed maintenance work, you know who you are. The weather was getting really hot by the time we packed up, so it was lucky that we had enough people to do quite a lot of work.

We finally got round to repainting the whole drivers’ stand and re-profiled some parts of the track.

The dicey Turn 2 chicane(or is it Turn 10 now that we run the track in reverse?) has been removed, so now top speeds at the end of the main straight will be slightly higher. Much of the wooden perimeter fencing has also been replaced by flexible piping. Hopefully this will reduce damage to cars that decide to try and leave the track at high speed.

There is still some work to be done before we call it finished though. The Starting Grid will need to be repainted, and the track edges will have to be touched up with paint as well.

The date for the next Working Bee to complete the remaining works (hopefully a short and quick one!) will be announced later.

15 January Race Report PDF Print E-mail

Last Sunday’s weather was just about perfect for an outdoor race meet, and as usual the Mini drivers were the largest group present, with nine drivers taking to the stands in that class alone.

The 540 class was first up, with KROMA regular Lionel Kong running up front. Newcomer John Franklin was coming to grips running in a race pack and young Aleandro De Lorso was still sorting out the gear ratios in his car so expect closer competition in the coming months.

Mini racing was once again highly competitive, though Tim Keiller and Brad Portelli proved once again that it all came down to driver skill as two of the fastest Mini drivers in the region blazed to the front in every heat.

In the 21.5T Touring Car class, Josh Thomas and Thomas Camilleri had a closely fought day with veteran John Dennis, trading top spots throughout the qualifiers and races.

The fastest class run was the 13.5T Touring Cars, with Michael Salis setting the pace through the qualifiers. The first race had a close ending with Nathan Burge just beating Michael to the line by 0.2 seconds.

Full race results are here. The next club meet will be on 5th February.

22 Jan Working Bee:

There will be a Working Bee to get the track ready for the 2012 KROMA Cup. The more club members and volunteers turn up, the faster we can get things done, so please come down and lend a hand! The track will be slightly modified to accommodate running in reverse direction, and the drivers’ stand will need to be repainted. People will be there from around 8.00 a.m. in the morning though there’s no penalty for arriving late! You don’t have to bring anything, just yourself.
